Personality Traits Demonstrated in Handwriting Samples

We often spend a great deal of time, effort and money getting to know someone; only to discover that they have needs or desires that are incompatible with our frame of reference.  However, you can effectively recognize compatible traits and invite those people into your life who have a greater possibility of forming a quality relationship with you.  By taking a few moments to notice the person's handwriting you will observe very small neuro-muscular movements that are shared by people with particular personality traits.  Following is a brief summary of some of these traits.

Note: If the person tends to print rather than write a cursive script, they tend to put up barriers so others cannot easily see who they really are, but you can still interpret the individual strokes.

  • Defiance: Shown by a large lower case letter, especially k in the writing.  This writer tends to resist other's authority.  The tendency can be interpreted by others as resentment at being told what to do and as rebellion in young people.
  • Desire for Attention: Shown by high ending strokes that go up in the air.  This person needs to be the center of attention and looks for ways to get noticed.
  • Desire for Culture: Shown by lower case d's that go up to the left but never return to the baseline.  This trait is also indicated when the writer uses the Greek letter that looks like a stylized capital E.  These writers have a desire for cultural things such as travel, adventure, music and fine food.
  • Desire for More Physical Activity: Shown by average to large loops in the lower case p.  The larger the loop, the stronger the desire for more physical activity such as exercise, travel or sex.
  • Desire for Responsibility: Shown by a large round loop at the beginning of a word, generally in W, M or S.  This person has a desire to be needed by a large number of people and will need to be in a leadership role.
  • Diplomacy: Shown by down slanted humps toward the right on m's and n's.  This person has the ability to say things in a way that other people want to hear.
  • Directness: Shown by beginning vertical strokes on the lower case t that go down and curve to the right (no beginning stroke.)  This person wants people to get to the point and doesn't like to be slowed down.
  • Dominant: Shown by down slanted t-bar, to the right, with a blunt ending.  This person tends to be in control and likes it.  He takes charge making people follow directions without angering them.
  • Domineering: Shown by down-slanted t-bar, to the right, with a sharp ending.  This person tends to fight for control.  He takes charge, insisting people follow him.  The sharp t-bar signifies sarcasm, whining, griping and possible cruelness when he doesn't get his way.
  • Dual Personality: Shown by an obvious slant variation from left to right in the same sentence.  This person has trouble making decisions because the head and heart are in conflict.  He withdraws into the introverted personality when he feels insecure and can also exhibit unpredictable mood swings.
