Using Color for Feng Shui Treatments
Color enriches every area of our lives. Following is a brief summary of color associations you can use in making feng shui treatments to bring about a desired outcome.
Red: Considered a lucky color, red is associated with the fire element, strength, activity and passion. In China, it is believed to bring happiness, good fortune and fame. Gifts of money are given in red envelopes. Many feng shui cures use red ribbons, red envelopes or red ink for calligraphy. Red attracts positive energy and dispels bad luck.
Orange: A blend of red and yellow; orange and its variations of peach, coral and russet contains some characteristics of both red and yellow hues. It stimulates chi and symbolizes happiness and power.
Yellow and Gold: In China yellow is considered to be the color of authority. In the West, yellow is representative of the sun and its life-giving warmth. Psychologically, yellow encourages feelings of optimism and cheerfulness.
Green: The color of plants, green is associated with growth and is a calming color. Green also tends to have a relaxing influence.
Blue: The color of water and the sky, blue reminds us of nature and conveys a sense of serenity. Its soothing influence can help to counteract stress or hyperactivity. We associate light blue with hope and purity, dark blue with seriousness and dignity.
Purple: In many cultures purple is considered a "royal" color and reserved for the wealthy and powerful. In some Western religions, it is linked with spirituality. In China, purple is thought to be a fortunate color.
Pink: Pink is associated with love, affection and joy. The color tends to produce feelings of sociability and congeniality.
Black: Black is the color of money in China. In the West, it is associated with seriousness, formality and wisdom. Black is a blend of all colors of the spectrum and can be used in feng shui to increase mental activity and communication.
