Essential Oil Bath Salts and Dusting Powder
Here are two simple recipes using common ingredients and your favorite essential oil.
To make a batch of bath salts you will need:
2 cups of Epsom salts
3/4 cup powdered milk
1/2 cup borax
1 1/2 teaspoons fragrance oil, essential oil or fragrance blend
1-2 drops of food coloring (optional)
If you will be adding the food coloring to your bath salts, mix the dry ingredients and food coloring in a non-metallic bowl with a wooden spoon you use for fragrance crafting only. You can also mix the dry ingredients and food coloring in a locking plastic bag. When the dry ingredients and food coloring are mixed, add the fragrance oil and mix again. Use 1/3 to 1/2 cup bath salts in the tub. If you are giving the bath salts as a gift, include a large scallop shell as a scoop.
To extend the longevity of your perfume or cologne, use a complementary dusting powder of the same fragrance. To make a batch of dusting powder you will need:
2 cups arrowroot or cornstarch
1/2 cup baking soda
1/2 -1 teaspoon fragrance, essential or blended oil
Blend the ingredients well. Pass through a sieve to remove any lumps. Store in a glass shaker or a recycled talcum powder dispenser. If you are giving the dusting powder as a gift, include a swans down puff. Source: Perfumes, Splashes 7 Colognes by Nancy M. Booth.
