Feng Shui treatments or cures include crystals, chimes, bells and mobiles.  These treatments are always hung using a red ribbon, string or cord.  The ribbon is cut to a multiple of 9 inches or 9 centimeters (9, 18, 27, etc.) in length.  However, this does not mean that the chime or crystal  you are hanging must hang down from the ceiling in a multiple of 9 inches.  Rather, you may hang it as far down as you deem appropriate and the extra ribbon can be tied at the top in a decorative bow.  Source:  Feng Shui Tips for a Better Life by David Daniel Kennedy.
