Composing Your Own Fragrances

Whether you plan to blend your own cologne, perfume, sweet water or potpourri, these general guidelines should help you create the ultimate fragrance.  Amber adds warmth and sweetness, Bergamot adds a sunny, citrus scent, Carnation gives a clove-like fragrance, Frangipani is sweet and spicy, Frankincense adds a mellow, woody note to a blend, Heliotrope and violet enhance each other, Neroli adds a warm, dry note to a blend and also balances the fragrance of rose, Oakmoss imparts a powdery, lichen scent, Patchouli adds woodsy, earthy notes, Rosemary adds green, pine scents, Sandalwood imparts a warm, sensual note but can also be used on its own without other scents, Tuberose is intensely sweet and heavy, Vanilla is a tenacious aroma that enhances, mellows and sweetens any blend and finally, Vetiver adds woodsy, musky notes to a fragrance.  Source: Perfumes, Splashes & Colognes by Nancy M.
