Bulges in the joints of the fingers are caused when energies do not penetrate from one phalange to the next.  They reveal an impediment to the flow.  Such enlargements may occur on any finger.  Between the first and second phalanges, they are knots of philosophy were ideas get blocked.  A pronounced knot on the second joint is called a "knot of order." Everything has its place and everything must be in its place, no matter that the result looks terribly untidy and cluttered.  A small knot is a good thing whereas a large knot makes a person rather weird to live with for the "proper" place to store an object is not necessarily a very practical place.  Source:  The Prophet's Bible by Gavin and Yvonne Frost.
