Intelligence

I'm not sure what exactly we mean when we say someone is "smart."  Do we mean she can quickly solve a math problem, or rewire a solenoid, or repeat the names of everyone at a party?  Perhaps we're talking about a man who can quickly turn confrontation into mutual admiration, or amass great amounts of  wealth, or solve a crossword puzzle in five minutes.  There are times when I am interacting with a person, and it is as if their brain is in slow motion and delaying all bodily responses in a freeze-frame format.  I can also spot them in traffic, weaving randomly, cutting corners short and timing their speed so that they cruise through the traffic light at just the right pace so that I am stuck with the red light.  Are these people just "slow" or are they so smart that they transcend my sense of the norm and are in another space entirely?    I'm not sure if my intellect is declining as I age, but my perspective on life and what matters is certainly changing.  But just in case I do need some mental exercise, I'll keep my membership at Happy Neuron.
