Patterns

Yesterday I had a pleasant dinner conversation with a gentleman I've known for several years.  He's quite the ladies man and I've from a distance known about his various female friendships that often turned into deeper relationships.  During the conversation, I was reminded of how similar his current situation is to past relationships.  To transgress a bit, I did an undergraduate internship in the news department of a local NBC affiliate and one of the phrases that always stuck with me is "same story, different faces and names."  Meaning that news and happenings tend to repeat a pattern with the only change being the people involved.  And this seems to be the case with my gentleman friend and his relationships.   So the unanswered question, is how often is he required to repeat this destructive pattern?  I doubt he realizes the similarity of his various relationships and certainly would not want to hear this from me.  So I'll observe from a distance and see if this all turns out to be another chapter in the "same faces" saga.
