Age Appropriate
I really don't know what's age-appropriate behavior in the work environment. My current position is in a great state of flux and some of the activities that are being mandated of me seem quite insulting. So I'm second-guessing myself along the lines of whether I'm just stuck in my ways or are these requests really out of line. Today I made a presentation at a meeting and was given a very nice evaluation in front of my peers by my boss's boss. Then I returned to my office and was given a directive by my "other" boss that since I had not produced "x" because I was out of the office at the meeting, I had to do "y" which basically meant I had to literally walk the streets and ask for business. My office is in a somewhat unsafe environment and this was late in the day, so I was actually walking around in the dark looking for business. I found this directive insulting. Yes, I could be called uncooperative, rebellious and any other term a manager might put forth. But in my mind, I think of myself as a professional. I have extensive training in my field, the highest level of educational degree possible, but yet I am subjected to someone arbitrarily saying I have to walk the street and not come back until I have "x" new accounts. Yes, I guess I'm getting too old for this stuff.
