Maintenance
I've just completed a series of visits to the dentist. We both had to endure fixing a number of problems that just seemed to pop up overnight. Then I've had an eye exam and will be getting different glasses. In a couple of weeks I go for my annual physical. Gosh, it takes a lot of time and effort to keep the body maintained! I have managed to find a way to incorporate exercise in my daily activities and I'm making adjustments in my diet to better fit my slower metabolism in an effort to keep the maintenance at a minimum. I find it interesting that we spend a large part of our lives accumulating resources targeted toward a grand retirement. Then the big day comes but shortly after that special moment we find our new job is waiting in a doctor's office to check, fix or remove something. So what happened to the golden age of retirement? I'm not quite there yet, but I do know plenty of people who are and the longer they live, the less they "live" and the more they "exist." So I guess the message is that when one is able to physically enjoy an activity, a relationship, a moment - don't let that opportunity pass you by. There will be plenty of time to languish in a doctor's office.
