Voting Early
Most likely I'll be working when the polls are open on election day so being a good citizen, I decided to take advantage of a vote early campain since this is my day off and I can afford a few hours for the process. I've heard of lines lasting five hours and I decided before I went that max amount of patience I would have for waiting would be 1-1/2 hours. I decided rather than fidget around like I would normally do, I would read a book instead. So, armed with my sample ballot, book and comfortable shoes I set out for the library polling place. I selected a library that I felt had the best opportunity to have the shortest line and selected mid-morning as a time slot, hoping for success. Parking was a litttle bit of a challenge but I managed to snag a spot after a little circling of the area. When I got in queue I looked at the sign and posted time from that point was one hour and twenty minutes. So far so good. I cracked open my book and started to read. Well, my attention was soon distracted by three people in front of me and a gentleman in back of me voicing their very firm political opinions. In an effort to get some respite from the bantering I offered to let him step in line in front of me and join the others...he refused (that is until the last 100 yards to the balloting booth)...the wait turned out a bit longer than the 1-1/2 hours but it was tolerable as this library had art work displayed along the way and I had my book to read. However, after trying to ignore the very vocal conversations surrounding me for nearly two hours, I was struck by the thought that these four people were strangely similar to each other but VERY different than me. Not only did we differ in causes and candidates, but I was very intrigued by the significant difference in mental processing they used to reach conclusions. I came away appreciating the uniqueness we cultivate in our lives and astounded that four so seemingly strange people managed to find each other!
