Remembering Things

I make it a habit to put my keys in the same place all the time,  My purse and eyeglasses also have their nesting place so that I can easily find them when needed.  However, everything else in my life is fair game for hide and seek.  I have bought the same book a couple of times because I didn't remember I already had one in my collection of books.  I make it a point to totally rummage through everything I have in the house at least twice a year because I find items I knew I had but totally lost "somewhere" in the confines of the house.  And if we move over to remembering names, well, just forget that one!  I'm pretty good at faces, but names always escape me (at times my own name can take a few moments to recall!.)  So is it that I am getting older and my mental faculties aren't as sharp as they once were?  Or could the real culprit be that as I get older, I just don't pay as close attention to detail as I once did?
